It sparkles and glitters when the sun shines on it. It is soft and smooth to touch. But it is always cold and melts in warm temperatures. This is the most precious commodity of all for winter athletes: powder snow!
You can set out into the fairytale world of powder snow just a few metres from the Hotel Alpina in the centre of Soelden. Take the Gaislachkogelbahn cable car up to 3,040m above sea level and you will find yourself at the heart of the Oetztal Alps.
Endless slopes
150 km of ideally prepared slopes await you on your skiing holiday in Soelden. Around 30 snow cats ensure that the slopes are accessible on skis, every single day. There is plenty to suit beginners and racing skiers alike in the Oetztal Valley, with everything from blue pistes to black pistes and steep descents on offer.
Free-riding fun in the powder snow
You will find plenty of soft powder snow on the descents from the Schwarzkogel down into the Pollestal Valley in Huben. You should always consult a local guide, as with any off-piste adventure. Nobody knows the slopes and their characteristics better than the local skiing and mountain guides. To ensure that you enjoy your skiing here to the full, you need to have a good level of fitness and be a good skier as each tour covers approx. 7,000 m altitude.
