Glacier skiing in Austria

Skiing from autumn to spring
The Soelden glaciers are a no. 1 attraction in autumn and spring in particular. While other resorts are still waiting for the first snow to fall, the season here has already begun! Even the season ends later than you would expect.
The Soelden ski resort is home to two glacier tongues – the Rettenbachferner and Tiefenbachferner – which guarantee skiing fun from autumn to spring. The Ski World Cup takes place here in October.
The two glaciers can be accessed by car from the Hotel Alpina via the highest panoramic road in the Eastern Alps. The road is in good condition and runs over 14 km and 1,300 altitude metres up to the Rettenbach glacier and from here through the 1.7 km long Rosi-Mittermeier tunnel to the Tiefenbach glacier.

The road is blocked in winter but make sure you are suitably equipped in autumn and spring (snow chains & winter tyres if necessary). Depending on the snow conditions, the winter season can last from September to the beginning of May.
